A blend of 65% Sangiovese and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Balifico is yet another protagonist of a vintage that has been extremely kind to Tuscany's blended red wines. That lasting summer heat and sunshine has shaped a full-bodied red with ripe tones of blackberry, cherry and spice. Those tangy spicy notes, with sweet cinnamon and savory barbecue smoke, give the wine a greater sense of fullness and lasting persistence. The tannins are already soft and ready, giving this wine an immediately accessible personality. Bottle production is 12,000 units strong. Drink date: 2018-2030. Monica Larner

This is vibrant, saturated with blackberry, black cherry, iron, earth and tobacco flavors. A solid structure lends support and the finish is long. Shows terrific harmony and texture. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2020 through 2033. Bruce Sanderson

A decadent nose showing dried herbs, underbrush, black-cherry compote, mulberries, dark chocolate, mocha and cigar box. Full-bodied and very intense with chewy tannins and loads of dark-fruit flavors. Fruit-forward but remains in tune.
